The rules I don't bend
Fix the cause
A patch that hides the symptom is debt that blows up later, and the client is the one who pays. I'd rather tell you something takes more work than leave it held together with duct tape.
Verify before I claim
I don't say something is working until I've tested it end to end. "It should work" is not a status.
Write it all down
The network, the credentials and the reasoning behind every decision get documented. If I'm ever not around, another technician can pick the work up without starting from scratch.
Speak your language
I explain what's going on and what your options are in business terms. I make the technical calls; you make the ones about money and priority.
